Christmas Meeting 2024

20th December 2024 – Annual review of LEAP activities

For the first time, Fondazione Invernizzi conference centre has hosted the usual Christmas meeting of LEAP (Laboratory for Effective Anti-Poverty Policies) of Milan Università Commerciale L. Bocconi, during which activities carried out during the year are reviewed and colleagues coming back to Italy for the meeting are greeted.

Directed by Professor Eliana La Ferrara and funded by Fondazione Invernizzi – LEAP is a project launched in 2016 that uses social sciences to assess policies implemented in developing countries and in Italy to develop more effective policies, in partnership with governments and NGOs.

Its aim is to try and reduce poverty all around the world by designing, analysing and disseminating anti-poverty actions, combining original data collection and rigorous scientific research to offer reliable solutions to those who seek to improve the lives of individuals in deprived areas. Leap areas of intervention are: agriculture, education, family, finance, health, immigration and the labour market.

LEAP was made possible through considerable funding from Fondazione Romeo ed Enrica Invernizzi, as part of its thirty-year support for scientific research in the agrifood, medical and economic sciences.

Speakers at the conference included: Luca Privinzano, LEAP Associate Director of Research, who presented LEAP activities carried out in 2024; Lucia Corno, Associate Professor of Cattolica University & LEAP Executive Director, who presented a project on the risks of migration in Guinea; Silvia Barbareschi, PhD Student in Economics & LEAP Student Affiliate, who spoke about her project on safety in public places, focusing on the condition of women; and Francesca Rinaldi, LEAP Research Assistant & LEAP Student Affiliate, who dealt with her experience as a LEAP researcher.

The meeting finished with the closing remarks of Professor Eliana La Ferrara and Gianantonio Bissaro, Managing Director of Fondazione Invernizzi. The soirée ended with a toast of good wishes for the upcoming Christmas holidays.
