Palazzo Invernizzi

The Palazzo was built in the early 20th century in classical style from an 18th century building.
It stands in one of the most prestigious areas of the city, where some of the most beautiful buildings of Milan are located. The Invernizzi couple purchased it in the late 1960s and moved in at the beginning of the Seventies.

Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi were part of the Milanese bourgeoisie This lifestyle is also reflected in the Palazzo that, in addition to housing the couple’s private flats, was a meeting and entertainment venue for their closest friends, who were received in the “cinema hall” set up for private screenings with a screen, a projector and forty armchairs, or in the terrace with a hanging garden, where the summer residence was located.

The Invernizzi couple wanted to maintain a bond with nature and the landscape of Trenzanesio residence; for this reason, behind the Palazzo, on Via Cappuccini, a luxuriant garden is located in which some flamingos still live. The imposing gate and the view of the garden, from which one can admire the flamingos living around the fountain, have become a symbol of the city of Milan and it is not uncommon to find families, schoolchildren and curious tourists peeking through the cracks in the hedges.

The Chilean and European flamingos living in the garden of Palazzo Invernizzi have been born in captivity in northern Europe for many generations. The flamingos feed on crustaceans, specific feed and vitamin-rich supplements. It is precisely crustaceans, which form the basis of this animal species’ nutrition, that give the typical pink colour to their feathers. Flamingos (Phoenicopterus Chilensis) are animals that easily adapt to their environment, not only in tropical areas, but also at high altitudes or in mountainous areas. Proximity to a wetland is important. The fountain in the garden of the Palazzo is at their disposal to ensure their health and well-being. Their state of good health is constantly monitored and guaranteed by veterinaries that are experts in exotic animals.
