Drinking with pleasure, drinking responsibly – Health, history and awareness

4th November 2025 – A multidisciplinary overview of the Italian lifestyle inspired by moderation

The consumption of wine and spirits has accompanied humanity for millennia, intertwining with history, social rituals and conviviality. Today, however, it is crucial to wonder about the meaning of “drinking responsibly”, especially now that public health, traditions and individual responsibility has increasingly intersected. For this reason, on Tuesday 4th November at 6.30 p.m., Fondazione Invernizzi organized the meeting entitled “Bere di gusto, bere il giusto” (Drinking with pleasure, drinking responsibly), an event designed to offer a multidisciplinary overview of the Italian lifestyle in terms of health, history and awareness.

ROUND TABLE

Prof. Claudio Mencacci, psychiatrist, offered a scientific overview of the effects of alcohol on the body and mind, also focusing on the social and health implications of consumption and abuse.

Prof. Marino Niola, anthropologist and populariser, explored the cultural significance of drinking through the rituals, symbols and changes that have accompanied our relationship with wine and other alcoholic beverages over the centuries.

Dr. Giacomo Ponti, President of Federvini, spoke on behalf of producers, reflecting on the role played by the industry in promoting the value, Italian excellence and responsible consumption as a positive element of quality of life.

The proceedings were introduced by Prof. Giuseppe Bertoni, President of Fondazione Invernizzi.

The meeting, moderated by Fernanda Roggero, ended with a guided tasting by Cristina Nonino, manager and master distiller of the company of the same name, to turn theory into experience, by learning to recognise and appreciate “conscious drinking” through taste.
