Invernizzi Award

From 1994 to 2003, the Foundation awarded the prestigious “Fondazione Romeo ed Enrica Invernizzi Award” to Italian scholars and researchers working in the fields of Economics and Food Sciences. Since 1997, the award has also been extended to Medicine. Award winners were selected by Comitato Generale Premi (Award General Committee) (Art. 14 of the Statute) consisting of nine internationally-renowned members, chosen by the Foundation Board among distinguished scholars in sciences and arts. Since 2004, the three awards have been converted into research grants in the same scientific areas.

Luigi Guatri

Economics
Economist and Lecturer at Milan Bocconi University. “For his uninterrupted scientific research in the field of economics, which has produced over 50 monographs and several articles and academic papers. Professor Luigi Guatri is unanimously regarded as one of the most authoritative scholars in business economics. His scientific contributions stand out not only for their in-depth study of topics, but also for the overall development of business economics doctrine”.

Gianfranco Piva

Food Science
Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Piacenza Cattolica University. “For his scientific activity, documented in over 500 publications, aimed at understanding the dynamics of nutrient utilisation, also in relation to the presence of anti-nutritional factors and product quality and safety. These topics were addressed by Professor Gianfranco Piva with foresight, according to an innovative approach, focusing on animal welfare and environmental protection”.

Renzo Dionigi

Medicine
Surgeon and Rector of Università degli Studi dell’Insubria. “For his qualities as a researcher and clinician demonstrated by over 700 publications by himself and his group, appearing in the most prestigious international journals. Professor Renzo Dionigi’s commitment as a cultural promoter is demonstrated by the ideational energy he lavished on the establishment of Varese University and as the author of historical-sociological studies on the great heritage of Insubria”.

Giacomo Becattini

Economics
Economist Lecturer in Political Economy at Florence University. “For his original contribution to the progress of Italian economic science through the integration of economic analysis and the analysis of society as a whole. Professor Becattini has achieved particularly innovative outcomes both for the recovery and enhancement of important elements of Marshall’s theoretical system, especially on the theory of economic development, and for the analysis of districts, understood as laboratories that render intelligible the complexity of the relations between economy and society in modern European capitalism, in particular relating to the Italian case (the economy of Made in Italy)”.

Giorgio Cantelli Forti

Food Science
Full Professor of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy at Bologna University. “For his decisive contribution to the assessment of toxicological risk from environmental pollutants. By proposing an innovative approach of integrated study of the mechanisms of toxic action of the various food contaminants, Professor Cantelli Forti pointed out how human exposure to potentially risky chemicals, such as pesticides, herbicides and natural toxins, can occur at various levels of the food chain. He showed how only by acting on the latter can the health and well-being of humans and animals be promoted and maintained”.

Claudio Bordignon

Medicine
Professor of Haematology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan. “For conducting pioneering studies in the field of gene transfer and gene therapy, which have contributed significantly to the development of gene therapy strategies for the treatment of congenital pathologies such as immunodeficiency diseases. The group founded and directed by Professor Bordignon is also one of the main global reference points not only in the field of gene therapy, but also in experimental haematology, bone marrow transplantation and the study of neoplasms”.

Livi Bacci definitely stands out as the most eminent Italian scholar and as one of the best known scholars in the world in tackling challenging social, economic and development issues with great rigour and clarity of exposition”.

Professor of Paediatric Clinic at Milan Statale University. “For his decisive scientific contributions on the fundamental role of breast milk in the physical and mental growth of infants and in the prevention of both childhood and adult diseases and the promotion of breastfeeding”.

Professor Emeritus of Medical Pharmacology at Rome Sapienza University. “For managing to pursue, with an original method and a unified vision, systematic studies that have opened up biogenic amines and numerous neuropeptides through the characterisation of 5-hydroxytryptamine. These fields have proved to be of the utmost importance in the development of both basic and applied biological sciences and pharmacology”.
