Fondazione Invernizzi has hosted PIANO CITY Milano for the first time

17th May 2026 – Two concerts blending memory and virtuosity

For the first time, Fondazione Invernizzi has opened the doors of its Palazzo to PIANO CITY Milano for two concerts held on the same day: Sunday 17th May 2026.

Since 2011, Piano City Milano has consistently celebrated one of the most elegant and fine instruments, which can touch the deepest chords of the soul: the piano. A festival that has turned the entire urban space into a giant concert hall, with the courtyard of Palazzo Invernizzi playing its part by becoming a stage for sounds and emotions.

This initiative has confirmed the Foundation’ s commitment to becoming a space for cultural research and experimentation, open to innovation and the promotion of talent on the international arena.

Events at Palazzo Invernizzi

As part of the festival programme, Fondazione Invernizzi organised two events offering the public an experience of listening and discovery. An invitation to be carried away, on the one hand by the forgotten melodies of female composers from the 18th to the 20th century, and on the other by an expressive journey started with the heroic and rigorously structured drama of Beethoven’s "Appassionata”, culminating in the feverish tension of Skrjabin’s music.

Sunday 17th May, 11 am Palazzo Invernizzi – Nareh Arghamanyan in “Femmes de légende

The first concert, in collaboration with Fondazione La Società dei Concerti, presented a journey through female piano works from the 18th to the 20th century, alongside famous virtuoso transcriptions from the Romantic era. From the classical forms of Marianna Martines and Anna Bon of Venice, the programme moved on to the intimate and passionate Romanticism of Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel and Clara Schumann. The elegant lyricism of Cécile Chaminade and Mél Bonis, combined with the evocative writing of Johanna Senfter and Else Schmitz-Gohr, enriched the programme with diverse poetic and tonal colours, culminating in the brilliant and enthralling pieces inspired by the Viennese waltz of Johann Strauss, reinterpreted through the pianistic virtuosity of Godowsky, Friedman and Arghamanyan.

Sunday 17th May, 3 pm Palazzo Invernizzi – Takahiro Yoshikawa in “Sonatas under Milan sky"

The second concert, in collaboration with Musica nell’Aria, opened with Beethoven’s “Appassionata” Sonata, a masterpiece of drama and emotional tension, in which every note sounds suspended between conflict and catharsis. From the overwhelming impetus of the first movement, through the poetic intimacy of the second, to the final explosion of the third, “Appassionata” recounted the hero’s struggle with himself and with fate. The second part of the programme transported the audience into Alexander Skrjabin’s visionary universe, with a selection of Études that alternated between lyricism and feverish virtuosity. An intense, surprising and unforgettable journey.
